Putting it On
Have you ever heard someone say, “They’re just putting it on”? To the world’s way of thinking this is something false and wrong. In Kingdom thinking however, there are times when we need to just “put it on”. In fact Isaiah 61 tells us we are to put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Now that is some “put on!” When we are feeling down, defeated and under the weight of sin, we are to put on praise. We are to give voice to something we don’t even feel. When we do however, what we feel changes. The heaviness that cloaked us begins to dissipate and joy and hope returns to our soul.
The criticism the world has regarding “putting it on” is that of people not being true to who they are. This however is not the case in the Kingdom. The garment of praise is part of who we are as believers. We are born from above and are by nature worshippers.
Praise has little to do with our circumstances, or the state of our soul. Praise is about the greatness and goodness of our God. That is something that does not change, regardless of our circumstances.
O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, You who bring good tidings, Lift up your voice with strength, Lift it up, be not afraid; Say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" Isaiah 40:9
This passage from Isaiah encourages us to lift up our voice with strength. As we do, we push through the fear that holds us back, and keeps us bound. Furthermore, it is in this place of praise that we find ourselves on “the high mountain.” From there we can declare over our circumstances and our need, “behold your God!”
