Established by Grace
“it is good that the heart be established by grace” - Hebrews 13:9
When we do not live by grace, our heart is unstable and unsure. We don’t know if we are doing enough, or if our life is pleasing enough. That is a miserable way to live.
God wants His kids to live in grace, knowing they are fully loved and totally accepted. Then our hearts are stable. We are not influenced by our circumstances or swayed by our performance - or the lack of it.
For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3, 4)
None of us have the ability in our own flesh or humanity to fulfil the righteous requirements of the Law. Jesus however did this for us. He not only totally fulfilled the law but He also condemned sin in the flesh so that we could be free from condemnation (Romans 8:1).
Next time you notice that your performance is lacking then begin to thank the Lord that Jesus’s performance is totally perfect. We are judged by His performance, not ours. His performance is the basis of our acceptance and our access to the things of God. Now we can come boldly to His Throne of Grace (Hebrews 4:16) trusting in the finished work of what Jesus has accomplished at the cross.
